Michelle Burwell is a licensed physician assistant and has been helping people in a wide variety of clinical settings for more than 40 years. She is well-qualified and highly experienced in caring for and counseling patients, and performing minor procedures alongside the team here at Advanced Surgical Technology. She draws on her unique experience in caring for patients within civic, faith-based, hospital, and private practice settings.

For more than 20 years, Michelle has served as a physician assistant at nearly a dozen different establishments that included hospitals, civic and youth centers, and private practices. Her specialty focuses have included diabetes, geriatrics, and women’s health.
Private Practice • January 1993 - November 2006
Michelle practiced solo in a busy rural health clinic where she was also responsible for initiating policies and procedures, upholding OSHA standards, and preparing the clinic for state and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals (JCAH) certifications. In 1998, her practice converted into a regular internal medicine practice that focused on diabetes, geriatrics, and women’s health.
Clinical Care Coordinator, May 1991 - December 1992
Assisted physicians on rounds, reviewed charts with physicians, coordinated treatment plans with ancillary departments, liaison for physicians/ nurses, physicians/ patients, and physician/ administration; responsible for staff discipline and education; responsible for quality assurance on the unit.
Supervisor/Emergency Room Supervisor, 1984 - 1989
Responsible for employee staffing, evaluations, and supervision on medical-surgical and emergency departments, departmental quality assurance, and general operations of both units.
Inservice Coordinator
Responsible for whole house in servicing of new employees and monthly in servicing of nursing personnel, departmental quality assurance, sponsored several external seminars, developed bedside charting and instituted the program, developed new Kardexes and various requisitions that are still in use, assisted with the opening of Crossroads Community Hospital.
