She is a highly trained professional, with a Masters of Science in a Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner program at Walden University. Her background includes serving as an ICU nurse, house supervision, and as an ER nurse at Heartland Regional Medical Center.

Abbey graduated Cum Laude from Southern University Carbondale in 2009 and is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honors Society. She achieved her Bachelor of Arts degree at Southern Illinois University in psychology in 2009, her Associate Degree in Nursing from Kaskaskia College in 2012, and her Masters of Science in Nursing from Waldon University in 2015.

An extraordinary level of experience: Abbey Gettinger

At Advanced Surgical Technology, Abbey is responsible for providing personalized care to patients, including physical exams, observations recording medical history, symptoms, and administering and analyzing diagnostic tests, diagnosing health issues, and identifying changes in the health of patients and directing treatment to reflect any changes in overall health.

Abbey will work closely with your other healthcare professionals in treatment planning. She provides caring, focused, professional guidance to patients and their families to help them manage illnesses and conditions. She assists in our surgical procedures, as well as monitoring and operating our equipment at Advanced Surgical Technology.

ICU RN, 2012 – 2016, Heartland Regional Medical Center

Beyond the scope of a medical unit nurse, furthering the scope of bedside care included critical thinking, ventilator management, management of and titrating various medication drips, balloon pumps monitoring and patient care, assisting physicians with insertion of central and arterial lines, physical assessments of high acuity patients, patient care documentation, care for chest tubes, arterial and central lines, Blake and Jackson-Pratt drains, telemetry monitoring, hospice and post-mortem care. Responsible for making unit schedule. Duties also included charge RN, preceptor to newly hired RN’s, as well as an EMAR super user.


House Supervisor (PRN), 2013 – 2016, Heartland Regional Medical Center

Responsible for staffing all departments in the facility for next shift, room assignment for new patients, overseeing documentation is correct for patient transfers to other facilities, ensuring patient safety, conflict management/resolution, and critical care decision making.

Abbey enjoys playing with her nieces and nephews, shopping, pampering herself, and playing slots in her spare time.
